Yuletide Letter
Oct. 7th, 2021 09:27 pmThanks for writing for me!
A few notes to start:
I love a good world build, though I totally forgot to nominate that as a tag for anything, oh well.
I love casefic and heists. I like romance that is present but takes a back seat to friendship, or slow burns. I adore found family, and people being good parents. I like hurt comfort, and people taking care of each other.
I love crossovers, and if it's a detective show that's:
1. Available in the US, in English, on some form of streaming service
2. Not set in the US
I've probably seen at least one episode. You can also check previous year's letters for lists of favorites, or favs spotted in this year's tagset:
Brokenwood, Father Brown, Poirot, Foyle's War, My Life is Murder, New Tricks, Shetland, and Enola Holmes.
Detective team ups are wonderful. Crack detective team ups are love (and I mean that. You want to toss Detective Pikachu in there? go for it). .
Happy endings only please (a solved case counts).
Do Not Wants:
AUs that change the setting or professions--high school AU, Coffee Shop AU types, or anything where detectives aren't detectives anymore. I'm fine with most other AU/canon divergences.
I absolutely do no want porn. Romance is fine, fade to black for the sex like you're on broadcast TV. No infidelity.
No canon-character death (please kill OCs for your murder victims if you're going for that)--if they're alive still in canon they should remain so.
Please keep sexual violence to aired on TV levels too--in general think 'safe for network broadcast'.
Do not give any protagonist a problem with drugs or alcohol, or treat narcotic use for pain as bad.
I particularly dislike the tropes of 'accuse the detective of a crime' and detectives breaking moral codes/otherwise becoming villains (the law and moral codes aren't the same).
Lupin:
I love Assane so much. He's so perfectly a gentleman thief. I'd love to learn more about how he got all the skills we see.
I've only asked for Assane to keep things open: I liked Claire, if you want to keep to canon ships. I really liked both Ben and Youssef.
If you're feeling slashy, Ben & Assane feels more like friends with benefits than committed monogamous relationship to me, but there is lots of fun to have there. Ben clearly puts up with a lot getting pulled along trying to keep up with Assane, but he also clearly really adores him. I'd love more from their past heists.
Youssef is intrigued and fascinated by our thief, in the long tradition of upstanding detectives being a bit charmed by dashing rouge thieves. There are all kinds of ways for Assane to flirt with him too. Youssef also seems the sort to bend the law a bit to be morally right when the law is wrong.
If you're crossover inclined:
There's a fine tradition of phantom thieves teaming up. How would Assane do crossing paths with Neal Caffrey? Or the Leverage crew, who would probably have a high five for him for the rich guy take down (Assane & Hardison: BFFs?). Also amusing would be Lupin III and his crew, or Kaito Kid (either Kaitou or his parents, Chikage was a French thief to start). Assane should come out on top of course, it's his story. Also fun would be Assane vs. a detective from my other fandoms. For a more concrete prompt: Assane got so skilled by training with other phantom thieves.
Mystery Case Files:
Character: Master Detective
So, I'm a hidden object game addict. MCF is one of my favorites of the many series I play, especially the classic Ravenhearst saga ones, and Dire Grove, which is the best game they've done.
I'd love background or history on the detective, or how they came to be a master detective. I'd love any kind of interactive fic or choose your own adventure for this particular fandom.
Now that we've had a bit more revealed in the recent games, we still don't have a lot on how this universe works, and who is really behind what is going on.
McDonald & Dodds:
Characters: McDonald & Dodds
This is a super short series so far, so if you want to get into a new canon there are only 5 episodes.
I love Lauren as a detective and character! She's so cool. She's smart, she's politically savvy, she knows how to play with the brass. She will stick a knife in the back of anyone who crosses her and smile while she does. We get the idea more went down in London than she's said. What was it?
Dodds is so understated. We don't even know his first name. He reads as on the spectrum or otherwise neuroatypical, and I think that's intentional, it would be interesting to lean into that.
I would love a story with Lauren learning more about him as a person. He keeps having surprising aspects to his story that we get little glimpses of.
He has been a detective a *long* time. Old case comes back to haunt them?
Their relationship is a riot. Please don't make it romantic, she's his direct superior so that's a no go for me.
I'd love a casefic. Or a bit of peril for either one. A crossover would be a delight, lots of reasons for other characters to show up in Bath.
